Selling on Amazon Reddit Communities: Top Forums for Sellers

by Tomer

November 24, 2021

The Amazon selling community is alive and well on Reddit! People are selling, people are buying, and there’s a whole lot of advice being shared about how to do it all properly. Whether you are currently a seller or just thinking of starting, Amazon subreddits have created a free space to talk about the ups and downs and raw experiences of online selling.

The benefit of Reddit is that you can freely ask any questions you have in an anonymous community. This makes it a more comfortable experience because you won’t have to think about people knowing who you are, unlike if you posted in Facebook Groups or other online forums.

In this selling on amazon reddit blog post, we’ll go over what Reddit is, the Amazon Reddit communities we recommend, and other business communities to check out!

What is Reddit in the First Place?

An Overview

Reddit is a user-driven social media platform that allows users to create text posts, post images or videos,  and share their thoughts with the site community. Almost any topic you can possibly think of, there is a community for it on Reddit. Most users like to remain anonymous to give them the freedom to express themselves however they like without fear of judgment.

“Subreddits” are subforums containing posts on similar topics of interest where people can comment on what they think about it all. Think of it as an online community. All subreddits have their own rules, so you should take the time to read them before you start posting.

How to Engage

In each subreddit, pay attention to pinned posts by Moderators so that you can read more about what their group’s aim is, how they expect posters to behave, and for other important information. Make sure you not only take advice from a community, but also contribute to it as well by sharing your own knowledge!

We also recommend that before posting anything, you search for what you are looking for first because there may already have been discussions for the topic. Some subreddits even have a Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q) thread pinned, which we recommend you read if you can see one.

What to Expect in Amazon Seller Reddit Communities

While exploring Amazon Reddit communities, it’s important to remember that you will get a lot of mixed opinions from people. People posting on Amazon Reddit communities are often looking for advice, or they want to share about their journey with other users.

There is no “perfect” Amazon seller Reddit community. Some posters choose to engage and put their focus in just one, so we recommend that you spend time browsing through numerous communities. You never know which one has the information you are looking for and right people to talk to!

It can be difficult to decipher the good advice from the bad because many users on Reddit are anonymous, and we have to be careful with the information we put our trust in.

However, users are also able to “verify” themselves, and if you can see these verified badges next to their usernames, they are the more reliable ones to listen to. Still, before taking advice and making big moves, do your own research when needed and make informed decisions.

There are also a lot of selling groups on Reddit, so be careful browsing them because they’re often just used for spamming promotions and if you’re not careful, you may even end up clicking on a malicious link.

Amazon FBA Reddit Communities We Love

selling on amazon reddit

/r/FulfillmentByAmazon

Membership as of November 2021:  77.6k

Description: For mid to high level discussions about selling on Amazon and using their Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service.

One of the largest subreddits for everything Amazon FBA. Take note that a large subreddit means that a lot of people are posting, so it does not guarantee that each thread gets equal attention.

Everyone’s eyes are split between different threads, so if you plan to post in a large community, make sure you catch their attention through your post’s title and first few sentences to get a higher chance of a response!

/r/AmazonSeller

Membership as of November 2021: 25.9k

Description: For discussion about selling on Amazon. Do you have an account on Amazon Seller Central and/or Vendor Central? Are you selling on Amazon Fulfilled by Merchant / FBM? This is the subreddit for you. We help entrepreneurs succeed with selling on Amazon and using their services. Want to discuss Amazon without annoying seminar and application spam? This is the subreddit for you. Productive discussions only. We could use your help too! Please, spread the word about /r/AmazonSeller. Thank you.

What is nice about their community is that they don’t just interact with each other, but they like to share resources with each other. As written in the description, the community is for much more than just Amazon FBA. They are open to topics about FBM, Seller and Vendor Central, general selling advice, and more. It is encouraged that threads become more than just “small talk”, and that everyone is interacting with each other meaningfully.

/r/AmazonFBAHelp

Membership as of November 2021: 2.0k

Description: Tips, tutorials and advice for Amazon FBA sellers. A community of sellers looking to help each other along the journey. The only silly question is the one you don’t ask. This community has been created to discuss and build knowledge on all things Amazon FBA. Welcome!

Unlike the previous group, /r/AmazonFBAHelp appears to be a lot more “casual” and for broad topics. Their moderators do not seem to be strict about topics for discussion.

Smaller communities can also be great to engage in because many members in smaller subreddits can be very dedicated to giving attention to each thread.

However, observe the activity of threads in smaller communities in case they are inactive. Activity in subreddits can fluctuate, so if you are going to post in a smaller subreddit, make sure that it will catch a reader’s eye!

/r/AmazonUnder25

Membership as of November 2021: 5.2k

Description: A subreddit for posting the best products from Amazon that cost under $25.

Straight to the point, and laser-focused on what their community is all about. As a seller, you can browse through communities like these to observe the behavior and opinions of buyers.

A struggle many sellers can face is not always knowing what people want. These insights you can gain from subreddits like these can help you understand what kinds of items are popular at a given time, what buyers are looking for in products, and how you can further improve your shop.

Making it a habit to understand the customer will always prove to help you out in any business you get involved in.

/r/WTFAmazon

Membership as of November 2021: 18.5k

Description: The new place for WTFAMAZON is /r/amazonwtf Weird, crazy, unique items that you can purchase from Amazon. They can be really expensive items, gross items, ugly things and truly bizarre stuff. Anything that you think would make a reasonable person go “WTF?”, really.

Just like the previously mentioned subreddit, it’s important for sellers to be updated on what products buyers are talking about. Even though this subreddit is for “weird, crazy, unique items”, you never know when you can take what you’ve learned and find ways to apply it to your business.

Who knows if you may discover an idea for a new product to sell? It’s always fun to be able to sell unique products that don’t have too many competitors. However, invest time in product research to see if it’s worth the investment.

/r/AmazonFBAForBeginners

A Private community, and membership numbers can only be viewed by approved members.

Description: A community for my YouTube Channel to discuss videos around Amazon FBA

You will have to request to join and see what the buzz is about, but private communities are always great opportunities to learn from people who can be considered more “trustworthy”.

Moderators that don’t have the time to manage a large group can choose to just focus on a private group. This way, they have control over the number and quality of members to accept.

A lot of people can feel uncomfortable sharing certain information for the entire world to see. Members in private communities are oftentimes more invested in the discussions and more willing to openly share in a private setting over a public setting.

Other Business-Related Reddit Communities You Can Check Out

/r/Entrepreneur

Membership as of November 2021: 1mil

Description: A community of individuals who seek to solve problems, network professionally, collaborate on projects, and make the world a better place. Be professional, humble, and open to new ideas. Our community supports side hustles, small businesses, venture-backed startups, lemonade stands, 1-person-grinds, and most forms of revenue generation! However, no one cares about your blog. Please do not come here to self-promote your consulting, book, podcast, MLM, website, dropshipping guide, or $$$ scheme.

For such a large community, a lot of activity, all kinds of topics, and a lot of commenters.  This forum is very active, so it can be difficult to get noticed. Just because a forum has a large amount of members doesn’t mean that it’s going to be perfect to engage in.

If you are just about to start out as an online seller, you have to keep in mind the type of environment you want to learn from – do you need nurturing and gentle suggestions, or are you ready for some tough love? You can expect all kinds of responses from such a large community.

Another thing to be aware of about large communities is that it is possible that there are a lot of “haters” and people trying to undermine your messages because they may not want others selling products or making money online if their own business isn’t doing so well.

As always, make sure that when you engage in highly active subreddits, you use your own best judgment.

/r/Flipping

Membership as of November 2021: 221k

Description: A place to discuss tactics and success stories of buying things for a low price and selling them for a higher one.

This kind of group is best for Amazon Resellers, which is a very popular business model on the platform wherein sellers purchase items in large quantities at low prices, and then resell them individually for higher prices – just like how it is described in the subreddit’s description.

A subreddit like this is a great way to get advice from people on product sourcing, recommended items to sell, pricing items, and overall learning about their journeys and stories to success.

Just be aware that if someone is sharing a bad experience selling an item, you can take this information with a grain of salt and do your own research. It’s important to be wary of posters who may be sharing false information in case they wouldn’t want other sellers to succeed.

/r/SmallBusiness

Membership as of November 2021: 709k

Description: This sub is not for advertisements! Questions and answers about starting, owning, and growing a small business only.

Many small business owners constantly think about what they need to do next to grow their business, because simply selling isn’t the only thing they need to do. They are thinking of ways to promote themselves, cut costs where needed because of limited resources, create a long-term vision for their business, and gain funding. This subreddit is a great place to get advice on all of those things.

It is also always very important to gain inspiration from small business owners who share what they went through in order to grow their company (and hopefully the same will happen to you!).

What’s nice about their community is that they have a pinned post for people to freely promote their small business. Any chance that small business owners can take to get the word out there, they should take!

/r/Ecommerce

Membership as of November 2021: 180k

Description: For anyone interested in the operations of ecommerce sites. Ask your questions on marketing, seo, products, checkout, conversions, etc. We offer helpful and honest discussion to help you sell more online.

There is more to e-commerce than just Amazon! If you are currently selling on an e-commerce platform and want to learn more about other platforms, this could be a good place to start. Or maybe you are just starting to consider starting an online business, learn about the differences between the platforms, and discover which one is worth taking a big leap on.

The community is open to topics beyond just selling, which is so important!. As mentioned in the description, they encourage discussions on marketing, SEO, product sourcing, and more.

These are tasks that aspiring online sellers don’t really think about right away, and it’s useful for them to be aware of them.  This way, they can discover how much work it really takes to start, grow, and maintain a successful online business.

The Bottom Line

Hopefully, we’ve given you some insight into what Reddit is and how to find the Amazon Reddit communities that will be most helpful for your business. It can take some time to learn and understand how Reddit works, especially because they have their own jargon. But once you get the hang of it, it can be a lot of fun to engage in!

There are many more Amazon communities out there that we haven’t mentioned in this article! All you have to do is go to Reddit’s homepage and try to search for them manually.
